Everyone needs a flu vaccine

Everyone needs a flu vaccine – EVERY YEAR. Audubon County Public Health would like to encourage everyone to get their flu vaccinations. CDC recommends everyone over the age of 6 months get a flu vaccine. They can be given as soon as vaccine is available. It takes about 2 weeks after vaccination for your body to develop an immune response. By getting a flu vaccine for yourself and your entire family every year, you can help prevent flu-related illness, missed school, and missed work. You should get vaccinated every year for two reasons. The first reason is that because flu viruses are constantly changing, the flu vaccine that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season. The second reason is that a person’s immune protection from vaccination declines over time so a yearly vaccination is needed for optimal protection. Yearly vaccination is recommended even for those who received the vaccine during the previous flu season. With influenza vaccines available at local physicians’ offices and some pharmacies, Audubon County Public Health will only be giving influenza vaccines to children 6 months through 18 years of age who quality for VFC.
